I know I haven’t posted in a long time – I do have a lots of posts drafted, but I have not published them yet, because I have code snippets that I want to ensure are working first. However, I just had to post this photo- it shows how much this French Open title means. What an inspiration! 14 Grand Slams- ties Pete Sampras’ record AND Agassi’s Career Slam- I’d say he’s definitely up there for the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) debate.

3-4 days left till Wimbledon (depending on your time zone)… Who are your picks to win? :)
I had just turned 9 years old, and I was mesmerized by Lilia Podkopayeva, the gold medalist in the all-around gymnastics competition at the 1996 Olympic games. Her grace and beauty, combined with complicated skills, were not matched by anybody else: she was the complete package.

Since then, I have watched the Olympics gymnastics competition every 4 years. As the years went on, there were great gymnasts (Svetlana Khorkina, Shannon Miller, Carly Patterson, Simona Amanar, etc.), but most of them were successful not because of their artistry, but because of their powerful athleticism. The ones that were artistic seemed to not do well with the judges: the sport of artistic gymnastics slowly seemed to be fading away. It had been 12 years, and I had yet to see someone as amazing as Podkopayeva perform to their potential in the all-around competition… until last night.
Last night, Nastia Liukin performed 4 flawless routines with perfect artistry, grace, and athleticism. As soon as I saw her second routine (uneven bars), I knew it: She was the next complete package! The long wait had finally ended, and it was a matter of executing her routines on the biggest stage in the world. As much as Shawn Johnson is a great gymnast, she just does not have the same grace as Liukin. The only question left was if the judges would still see this competition as an artistic gymnastics competition, and the answer was yes. It was a wonderful competition, with lots of amazing gymnastics from all women. But at the end of the day, there she was with a long-awaited, much-deserved Olympic gold medal around her neck: her grace and artistry winning over the hearts of the judges and everybody else in the world.

GO CELTICS!!!!!!!! :D They just won their 17th NBA Title on the 17th. Pretty exciting, isn’t it? :) Being from Boston is amazing, considering that it is just a sports-dominating area. It makes it a fun place to live.
Let’s hope Wimbledon goes just as well for the favorites (go Federer!)!! :D
In USTA news: after playing everybody in the league once, we are still leading the league and are in first place! We are hoping to clinch the division title soon! Go team! :D
It is yet another day foooooooor… a sports update! :)
And in the news today. Well, let’s get the bad news over with. Federer got killed in the final (1,3,0) by Nadal. I guess there will always be next year: he just needs to keep on believing (and hopefully someone will take out Nadal along the way, or he will figure out a way to beat Nadal on clay in a place he is undefeated). Due credit to Nadal, I guess, but still, it was just a very sad day for such a big Federer fan. :(
In happier news:
- Celtics are up 2-0 on the Lakers in the NBA finals! Go home team! :D It really rocks to live in/around Boston, since the sports teams are all mostly awesome. If the Bruins get their game back, we’ll be golden!
- We won USTA again today. Currently, we are undefeated. Next week, my amazing, wonderful doubles partner will not be here, so I am trying to find a sub. If not, we will have to forfeit the women’s doubles match, but we still could win the overall thing (or get the maximum 24 points). Also, scores are available here. Pictures to come soon!
And that is today’s daily dose of sports. More to come soon… stay tuned!
This summer, I am playing in a tennis league (doubles for Hannon Hill), and today, our corporate team won all 4 of the sets we played : 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.
The order of play was:
- Men’s Doubles
- Women’s Doubles
- Mixed Doubles (2)
I played the Women’s Doubles and the first Mixed Doubles. Plus, the match was on clay, one of my favorite surfaces!!! :) It is definitely a nice feeling: playing competitive tennis. I haven’t done it since high school: brings back quite a few great memories! I cannot wait again until next Monday, when we play another match. Rock on!
Four seems to be the magic number of the day!
4 is the number of days I’ve been working on this one thing at work.
4 is the number of games the Celtics won to reach… THE NBA FINALS!!!!! :D
and…
4 is the round number which Federer just entered, by beating Ancic at the French Open.
Yup, it’s been a good day in Sports! :D Allez Federer and cannot wait to see you in the French Open finals a week from Sunday (hopefully)! :)
Some games are just worth watching. Today’s college ball game was one of them. With less than 1 minute left, a 3-point shot was made, and then, within the last 1.9 seconds, we also scored a 3-point shot. But then, even though a foul should have been called and we could have tied the game, the referees didn’t call the foul!
But similar to the Superbowl, the game was lots of fun and really great to watch. It also made me realize how important it is to have time for sports and entertainment. As I watched the game, I kept thinking about how badly I really wanted to play tennis again. Coincidentally enough, I came back to my dorm, and I was just about ask someone to play tennis, and he had asked me already. Anyway, that is about all going on for now. The bottom line: basketball is awesome and all sports are amazing and everybody should totally try different sports, because they are all really exciting and tons of fun!
Go Patriots!! They just won vs. San Diego Chargers (21-12), and they will try for a 19-0 perfect season at the Super Bowl on February 3rd. I am so excited! I also just found out that GT gets a TENNIS CHANNEL! That means I can watch Federer’s match tonight. Yay! :) The 16-hour difference between here and Australia is killing me, because that means I cannot watch any of the Australian Open matches live. But this one will work out. I have not watched an ounce of live tennis (only highlights here and there), so I am really excited. Plus, this will give me time to study for the Google interview. But I am so excited that both the Patriots and Federer have a good chance of winning their ultimate prizes (SuperBowl/ AO: Grand Slam #13 for Federer… one less than Sampras’ all-time record!!)!! Yay for being undefeated: Rock on!
